POST-PUBLICATION DISCUSSION
Al-Maqasid: Jurnal Ilmu Kesyariahan dan Keperdataan recognizes that scholarly communication, critical evaluation, and academic discourse do not end with the publication of an article. Post-publication discussion provides opportunities for readers, authors, researchers, academics, legal scholars, practitioners, and the wider scholarly community to comment on, question, critically evaluate, or clarify articles published in the journal.
The journal welcomes relevant, constructive, respectful, and evidence-based post-publication discussions that contribute to the advancement of scholarly knowledge, particularly in the fields of Islamic law, Sharia studies, civil law, Islamic jurisprudence, and related legal disciplines within the journal's aims and scope.
A. Forms of Discussion
Al-Maqasid: Jurnal Ilmu Kesyariahan dan Keperdataan accommodates the following forms of post-publication discussion:
-
Comments or Letters to the Editor: Scholarly responses, questions, observations, or constructive criticism concerning articles previously published in the journal.
-
Author Responses: Explanations, clarifications, or responses provided by authors regarding substantive comments, questions, or criticisms of their published articles.
-
Methodological and Scholarly Criticism: Discussions concerning research design, research instruments, legal research methods, data analysis, interpretation of findings, research limitations, and the consistency of conclusions with the supporting evidence. For normative legal research and Islamic legal studies, discussions may also address the accuracy of primary legal sources, statutory interpretation, Islamic jurisprudential arguments, Qur'anic and Hadith references, and interpretations of classical and contemporary Islamic legal texts.
-
Clarifications or Corrections: Notifications or requests for clarification concerning factual inaccuracies, incorrect references, quotation errors, data discrepancies, misinterpretations, or errors in authorship information and other published details.
-
Publication Integrity Concerns: Evidence-based concerns regarding the reliability of research findings, research ethics, authorship attribution, undisclosed conflicts of interest, plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, and other potential violations of publication ethics.
B. How to Submit
Readers, researchers, and other interested parties may submit post-publication comments, questions, or responses through the journal's official editorial email address, using the subject line "Post-Publication Discussion."
Submissions should include the following information:
-
The full name, institutional affiliation, and email address of the person submitting the comment.
-
The title of the article, the names of its authors, and the DOI or URL of the published article being discussed.
-
A clear, specific, and well-structured explanation of the comments, questions, criticisms, or concerns.
-
Relevant scholarly arguments supported by appropriate evidence, references, legal authorities, or other credible academic sources.
-
A declaration of any actual or potential conflicts of interest related to the discussion.
The editorial team may request additional information or supporting documentation when necessary to facilitate an appropriate evaluation of the submission.
C. Standards of Conduct
All post-publication discussions must be conducted professionally, objectively, respectfully, and in accordance with established standards of scholarly communication.
Comments must focus on the academic substance of the published article rather than the personal characteristics, background, or identity of its authors.
The journal will not consider submissions containing personal attacks, discriminatory or offensive language, defamatory statements, unsubstantiated allegations, hate speech, religious or ethnic hostility, or material unrelated to the scholarly content of the article.
Criticism must be supported by reasonable academic arguments and, where applicable, verifiable evidence.
Differences in scholarly interpretation, theoretical perspectives, legal reasoning, or jurisprudential opinions are welcomed, provided that they are presented constructively and supported by appropriate academic justification.
D. Handling Process
Al-Maqasid: Jurnal Ilmu Kesyariahan dan Keperdataan applies the following procedures when handling post-publication discussions:
-
Initial Editorial Assessment: The editorial team reviews submitted comments to determine their completeness, relevance, scholarly substance, and compliance with the journal's ethical standards.
-
Notification to the Corresponding Author: Comments that meet the initial requirements may be forwarded to the corresponding author of the article concerned. The author will be given a reasonable opportunity to provide a response, clarification, or supporting evidence.
-
Independent Expert Evaluation: When a discussion raises complex methodological, legal, ethical, or technical issues, the editor may seek additional opinions from independent reviewers or qualified subject-matter experts.
-
Publication of Comments and Responses: Comments and author responses considered appropriate for publication may be published as Letters to the Editor, Commentaries, Author Responses, Editorial Notes, or other relevant scholarly communications. Where published, these materials will be clearly linked to the original article to ensure transparency and accessibility.
-
Further Editorial Action: If a post-publication discussion reveals substantive errors, concerns about research reliability, or possible violations of publication ethics, the journal will conduct further assessment in accordance with its Correction and Retraction Policy and Allegations of Research Misconduct Policy.
Depending on the nature and severity of the identified issues, the journal may issue a correction, an expression of concern, a retraction, or another appropriate editorial notice in accordance with recognized publication ethics guidelines.
The Editor-in-Chief has final responsibility for decisions regarding the publication of post-publication comments and responses, subject to the journal's editorial policies and applicable ethical standards.
The publication of a comment or response does not necessarily imply that the journal or its editorial board endorses the opinions, interpretations, or conclusions expressed by the contributors.
